Natural Hair Care Products

The cosmetic and beauty products that you use daily is a primary source of chemical exposure. Any commercial hair care product that you use have many harmful chemicals that are unsafe for humans. Also, there is a general perception that a clean hair is obtained only when there are lather and bubbles. That is a misconception; it is not necessary to have bubbles to have a clean hair and also there is no need to have chemicals in your products too. There are many natural hair care products which are more effective than the chemical ones and what’s more they can quickly be prepared at home. Listed below are a few homemade recipes for natural hair care.

Homemade shampoo with coconut milk:


  •       ¼ cup coconut milk
  •       ¼ natural liquid soap
  •       Essential oils like orange, lavender, rosemary
  •       ¼ tsp olive or almond oil

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and add it into a soap dispenser. If you want to add a little foam, then pour this mixture into a foaming dispenser after adding ¼  cup of distilled water. Shake well so that the contents are all combined well. You can use this solution for about a month. Only a tsp of shampoo is needed every time you use it. Ensure you shake well before use. It can also act as a shaving cream.

Hair Mask:


  •       4 tbsp coconut oil
  •       2 tbsp honey
  •       Two drops of Vitamin E oil
  •       1 cup yogurt

Combine all the ingredients mentioned above and gently massage it on your scalp. Leave it for 30 minutes to set and rinse and shampoo. This hair mask helps to make your hair more manageable and free of tangles and can be used on all hair types.

Hair conditioner:


  •       Honey
  •       Olive Oil
  •       Two drops of any essential oil (optional)

Mix the honey and oil into a bowl. Apply this mixture to your hair from the roots till the end of it. Leave it for 20 minutes, but ensure you wrap it with a towel or shower cap. Rinse with warm water and your hair will have a soft and healthy look and feel.

Hair growth serum:


  •       Organic Castor Oil
  •       Almond\olive oil

Mix both the oils in a bowl and apply it on your scalp, eyebrows or eyelashes. Castor oil is a lot oily and hence not easy to wash off. If you are in cold weather conditions, you should slightly warm the castor oil before application. You can apply it on the scalp and leave it overnight, but wrap your hair with a shower cap. Wash the oil off with shampoo, you can use this oil every week.

Itchy scalp:


  •       Two drops of tea tree essential oil and peppermint oil
  •       Coconut oil

Combine 1 tbsp of coconut oil with a few drops of essential oil and completely massage it onto your hair. Leave it on your scalp for about 20 minutes, rinse with warm water. Tea tree oil has an antibacterial property which helps cure scalp infections, sores, rashes, etc. The copra oil is a natural moisturizer which soothes the scalp and also relieves dryness.
